ScanShack ® is a registered trademark My Electra Corp Tiger Scan arrived !!!

An independent review.

A car horn sounded from outside at approx 1505 hours on Saturday 8 May 99.  Could it be I asked myself ?????  Only a few individuals dare to get out of their vehicles prior to proceeding to the front steps.  Why you ask.... well they are not too sure if the two rottweilers bouncing and running along the fence line are looking for their next tasty meal.

Anyway...... the postman was met and he had a brown box with my name on it.  I thanked him and rushed inside.  To my delight I saw the return address of Electra Corporation on the label.  My Tiger Scan had arrived !

I carefully opened the priority mailed, well taped box and found the contents packed very well with plenty of cushion to pad the precious cargo from any unforeseen tumbles it may have taken while enroute.  The Tiger Scan scanner, Model #TSA, looked just like the picture on the Electra Corp sales flyer.  Also in the box were a two sided instruction/specification sheet, a two sided sales brochure and a detailed sales invoice.

What I got.... a picture is worth a thousand words........

I opened the refrigerator and withdrew a 9volt battery which I inserted into the Tiger Scan.  The battery went in very nicely just snug enough to make good contact.  Without reading any instructions I pressed the button (one of three on the radios top) which was marked On/Off.  Immediately the two red LEDs began flashing and my local weather broadcast came through loud and clear from the radios speaker.  I next adjusted the volume pressing the second button (volume control) until the words were even clear from across the room.

OK.... now for the good stuff..... I grabbed the two sided instruction/specification sheet and read.  (A less detailed version of the programming instructions are also printed on the radios back label).  I only had to do this once before I attempted the programming of the two channels of my choice.  I choose the local sheriffs channel and the local fire department as my test.  I followed the easy to read/understand instructions, listened for the proper beeps and tones and waited.  To my delight the sheriff dispatcher put out a call and the deputies responded.  Then as if timing was on my side the fire department sent out tones and the engine company responded.  The signals were crystal clear and strong.  My Tiger Scan had worked the first time which meant three things.  1) It was correctly put together and quality tested. 2) The programming directions were very well done and accurate. 3) I didn't mess up anything !

I really like the ease of programming/operation, the feel, the size and weight, the introductory price $59.95 + shipping/handling and the performance of this new little radio.

In this world of thousand channel/super complicated radios the Tiger Scan is a breath of fresh air if all you want to do is easily program in a couple of your favorite channels to listen to.

I look forward to seeing future products from Electra Corporation and I hope the Tiger Scan is a successful re-entry venture for them in todays scanner/radio monitor market place.

Thank you Electra Corporation for my new Tiger Scan !!!

For the record:  I am not affiliated with Electra Corporation, I purchased the Tiger Scan at full price and they did not know I was going to give any kind of review of their product.  I just plain like it !

Note: The above review was written in May 99 after the purchase of my first Electra Tiger Scan TSA.  I liked it so much I purchased the newer version (almond color this time) which arrived on 9 Dec 99.  Now I've got two !!!  A UHF version (TSU) may be in the works.
