Project #SS-2(4/1/99) AAA battery power for your BC2500XLT or BC3000XLT
The BP2500 battery pack powers the BC2500XLT & BC3000XLT.
I modified a Uniden BP2500 battery pack to allow my BC2500XLT to be powered by 4 AAA batteries. This is not meant to replace the longer life rechargeable pack but it's great in an emergency or such.
I get approx. 3 hours of use from a set of AAAs on my BC2500XLT.
Here is how:
1) Carefully open the old BP2500 battery pack.
2) Remove the internal circuitry and three rechargeable batteries.
3) Clean out as much of the glue and extra protruding plastic pieces as possible. You want to have as much flat open area inside as you can.
4) Purchase 2 Radio Shack catalog # 270-398B AAA battery holders. (each holds 2)
5) Solder (in series) the two AAA battery holders making it electrically 4 AAAs in series (6VDC).
6) Place the battery holders into the empty BP2500 case as shown in picture below.
7) Remove the four plastic tabs on the terminal side BP2500 case as indicated in picture below. (This allows the two halfs to be opened and closed easier with only the side pressure tabs to keep it in place.
8) Solder the two remaining red & black leads to the proper plus and minus terminals on the BP2500 case (terminal side). Place black electrical tape on terminals to insulate.
9) Insert 4 AAA batteries. (Measure the terminals to make sure the 6VDC is present).
10) Carefully close the two halfs of the BP2500 case making sure the wires are tucked away to one side and do not get pinched.
11) Slide the BP2500 onto the BC2500XLT (or BC3000XLT)
12) Turn on the scanner..... all done !

Below is the completed closed pack with the AAA batteries neatly stored inside and next to it an untouched rechargeable BP2500 battery pack.

Happy Scanning !
