Project #SS-1(3/31/99) AA battery power for your BC2500XLT or BC3000XLT
The BP2500 battery pack powers the BC2500XLT & BC3000XLT.
I modified a Uniden BP2500 battery pack to allow my BC2500XLT to be powered by 4 AA batteries. This is not meant to replace the rechargeable pack but it's great in an emergency or such.
I get approx. 7 1/2 hours of use from a set of AAs on my BC2500XLT.
Here is how:
1) Carefully open the old BP2500 battery pack.
2) Separate the two halfs and remove the internal circuitry from the terminal case side.
3) You will only need the side of the BP2500 case that contains the battery terminals and not the side that holds the old rechargeable batteries.
4) Purchase Radio Shack catalog # 270-391A or similar AA battery holder. (holds 4 AA)
5) Solder the red & black leads to the proper plus and minus terminals on the BP2500 case (terminal side). Place black electrical tape on terminals to insulate.
6) Place the battery holder (flat side) onto the empty BP2500 case as shown in picture below. Use super glue or tape to hold the two pieces together.
7) Insert 4 AA batteries. (Measure the terminals to make sure the 6VDC is present).
8) Slide the BP2500 onto the BC2500XLT (or BC3000XLT)
9) Turn on the scanner..... all done !
* The modded battery unit will slide onto the radio because the channels are still on the terminal portion of the case. It will lock but not as fully as it did when the latch, that is on the unused portion of the case, was employed. When you place the scanner into the leather case it will hold the battery unit more securely. As it is only slightly thicker when the AAs are inserted there is no noticeable difference cosmetically. As you can see from the picture you only know there are AAs powering it because they can be seen through the cutaway that allows access for the charger/adapter plug (now not there).

Happy Scanning !
